SHERMAN GYMNASIUM
Sherman Gymnasium is named in honor of Illinois College alumnus Herb Sherman ’58, in memory of his parents, Armond and Minnie Sherman. Sherman Gymnasium is the home for IC men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball. The court at Sherman Gymnasium is named Bill Merris Court in honor of the long-time head men’s basketball coach and former athletic director. The gymnasium has a seating capacity of 1,576 and includes standing room areas on all upper levels. The Green Training Room, named for Dr. James '61 and Cathy Green, is located on the east side of the court and is available to all student-athletes. A historic moment in Sherman Gymnasium history occurred on November 11, 2013, when the men's basketball team took on the Grinnell Pioneers in a game that was nationally televised on ESPN3.
